What should I do if there’s a fresh stain or spill?
What should I do immediately after a spill? Blot, don’t rub. Use a clean, dry cloth or paper towel to absorb liquid by pressing gently. Replace the cloth as it soaks.
Keep the stain damp. If the stain starts to dry, lightly mist with clean water to keep it damp. A damp stain is far easier to remove than a dried one.
Cover with a wet tea towel. Place a clean, wet tea towel over the stain and press lightly. This prevents the stain from setting and keeps the fibres moist until we arrive.
Do not use household cleaners or home remedies. Avoid supermarket stain removers, baking soda, vinegar or bleach. These can cause discolouration, residue or chemical reactions that make professional removal harder.
Do not scrub. Scrubbing spreads the stain and damages fibres. Always blot; never scrub.
If the spill is large or very wet, apply light pressure with a dry towel to absorb excess liquid, then cover with a wet tea towel. For very wet spills, protect the flooring underneath.
Test before treating delicate fabrics? If you try any product, test it on an inconspicuous area first. For delicate fabrics, leather, suede or antique textiles, avoid DIY and call us.
